Skills For Success

Exercise: Role-Playing Scenarios

Objective: Practice negotiating and finding a middle ground in simulated conflict scenarios.

Instructions:

  1. Scenario Selection: Choose one of the following scenarios or create your own:
    • Scenario 1: A project deadline is approaching, and you prefer to work overtime, while your colleague prefers to stick to regular hours.
    • Scenario 2: You and a teammate are preparing a joint presentation. One wants to focus on data, while the other prefers a narrative approach.
    • Scenario 3: Your team has a limited budget, and there’s a disagreement on whether to invest in new software or team training.
  2. Role-Playing: Imagine a conversation with the other party. Determine your priorities and needs. Then, negotiate to find a solution that addresses both parties’ concerns.
  3. Reflection: After negotiating, think about what strategies helped you find a compromise. Consider the following:
    • How did you balance your needs with the other party’s needs?
    • What did you learn about the importance of flexibility?

Discussion Prompt:

  • Share your experience in the forum. What challenges did you face? How did you overcome them?
